Energy efficient lighting not only saves dollars, but may also save lives and decrease risk exposure. By finding the optimal lighting application for both indoor and outdoor use, companies and institutions can reduce liabilities that may arise from potentially hazardous environments. Inadequate lighting in parking lots or sidewalks have led to serious liability cases, and impaired vision in working conditions can lead to slip-and-fall accidents. For example, utilizing new technologies such as LEDs can help with safety initiatives. LEDs are especially optimal in outdoor applications, as they are longer lasting than conventional sources (up to 25 times longer than halogen), instantly illuminate the designated area (unlike delayed warm up requirements by some CFLs), and emit much less heat during use. Moreover, because of their internal design and small size, they are much more robust against external forces and can be customized to fit in tight areas. All of these facts lead to both monetary savings and improved safety of premises.
